A clype gets no respect in Scotland as someone who tells tales on their friends, or indeed their enemies. It’s a common cultural no-no in many parts of the world to indulge in clyping whatever the local terminology is. Whether you are in the school playground and just making yourself a wee bit unpopular, or risking death by grassing up the local gangster, it’s one where you have to weigh up the consequences. I suppose it depends on whether you’re just making trouble or doing the right thing.
